Man, 78, Killed While Crossing Street In South Jersey: Police

A Vineland man was killed when he was walking across a road in the city, authorities said.

George Chryssomitis, 78, died in the crash, the Vineland Police Department said in a news release on Friday, Oct. 25. 

Officers responded to the intersection of North Main Road and Fairmount Avenue at around 5:08 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Chryssomitis was found with significant injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said a 2012 Cadillac SRX turned left from Fairmount to head south on North Main. The SUV struck Chryssomitis in the center turn lane as he crossed North Main.

The 56-year-old Vineland woman driving the Cadillac wasn't injured. No charges were filed as of press time and the investigation remained ongoing.
